Antique retail thread spool drawer for J. P. Coats thread. We are very pleased to offer this late 1800s J. P. Coats spooled thread drawer. This spool drawer was used in retail establishments to store the spooled thread manufactured by J. P. Coats. This thread storage cabinet measures 26" wide. 22" tall, and 19 1/2" deep. The cabinet has six drawers. The pulls on the drawers are wood. The cabinet has very nice turned wood accent post mounted on either side of the drawers, and there is a beautiful embossed pattern on the drawer fronts that emulates carved wood. Unfortunately the labels for the drawer fronts, and the contents are missing. There is also a inlaid sign panel on the back of the cabinet that advertises the product. The sign is damaged, but 905 of it is still there. Condition- This cabinet is in very sound condition. ... more It has the original finish, so it has developed a heavy patina over the years. These thread cases became as standard in the southern stores as did the lunch counters and Arm and Hammer baking soda. This is a really great piece of Americana. This beautiful antique oak spool cabinet is a neat design. Produced Circa 1900 by J&P Coats to hold and display the thread they manufactured and sold. It has tambour roll up doors on opposite sides. Glass panel sides through which you would be able to see the thread, flip up doors on top, where you would drop the spools down in, and beautiful pressed wood carving. It is also mounted on a swivel base so it could be placed on the counter at the General Store and customers would rotate it to make their selection. The graphics are all original and clear. Ink well hole on top as well as a groove for writing utensils(much like a student desk) Graphics on back painted and original. Unretouched, unrestored with dimensions 33" Long x 23.5 w x 15" H. There is a loosening of the dovetial with a crack on the right hand side. The leather top surface is a little stained. The lock is missing. Graphics on top right hand drawer are rubbed almost completely. Still can see the wording. Two small holes in inside drawer. Please review the picture closely. |  |
